We are so glad to be home. It was fun in Marco but the weather was cold and windy and we missed our kids and grandkids. On Friday, we went to see Ryan and Jon and Nathan and Sam to celebrate Jon’s birthday. Ryan made a flourless chocolate cake which was so delicious. Look how cute Sam is! No wonder we missed them so much.
Here’s a picture of Nathan with his new short haircut. Unfortunately like many kids he caught a case of head lice. We miss his curls but they’ll be back soon enough. He’s sitting at the counter having some “spread” – that’s Jonathan’s liver mousse. I was going to say it’s amazing that he likes it but it is so tasty that it’s not amazing at all. He drew some great pictures of the family in chalk on the sidewalk. The arms and legs come right out of the heads! He made the pictures of Zayde and Daddy have really long legs.
On Sunday Sarah and I went over to Burlingame to get our hair cut and colored. Sarah has been toying with the idea of coloring her hair something other than blond. After watching Shear Genius with us last night, she decided she didn’t want to be a “blondorexic” and decided to take the plunge. This is a picture of Gretchen cutting Sarah’s hair. The color is a warm brown with red tones. Having seen her as a blond, in mid-process as a redhead and now with her new color, I think she can probably wear almost any color.
And as the sun sets on another vacation in Marco Island, these weary travelers are ready to head home. Given that these last six weeks were probably the coldest in history here, we’ve still managed to have a good time. We played a lot of tennis (at least until I sprained my elbow) and had some good family visiting time.
But we are so ready to go home even though I know in another three weeks I’ll be ready to go somewhere else. I miss Nathan and Sam with whom we’ve Skype-d, but it’s not the same as being there. And of course I miss Sarah and Jon and Ryan. And my bed. And my own kitchen. And clothes that keep me warm enough in cold temperatures. And grocery stores full of wonderful produce. And California in general. And our friends. See you soon.
It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything. Let’s see, the weather warmed up, the pool started to warm up, the pool motor broke, the pool cooled off, then, the weather cooled off. No swimming this year. So we played tennis instead. A lot. Then there was a trip to the emergency room and my elbow was sprained and there was no more tennis. Then my sister, Peg, and her husband,Ted, arrived and my sister, Phyllis, visited . Family harmony ensued. During this visit, Roger Federer won the Australian Open. (yay!) And then the microwave broke. So the narrative about our trip is all caught up since this is the picture of Ted and John trying to install the new microwave before the Superbowl starts today because there are snacks to be microwaved. Go, some team!
