The cathedral is an impressive brick structure, where many kings of Denmark are buried. According to marks on a column inside, some of them were really tall, approaching seven feet! No wonder the English and the French were scared when a Viking flotilla appeared on the horizon.
The church has a wonderfully carved altarpiece and interesting frescoes, but the high point was the carving above the choir seats, depicting scenes from the creation through the resurrection. They are carved with great detail, somewhat rustic, but also with great expression and humor. The one shown here is Christ rising into heaven. All we see of him are his feet!
